Summer is in full swing! School is out, the sun is beating down, the pool is bustling with joyful children and the air is filled with the essence of chlorine and sunscreen. Vacations and visits to the beach are especially favored at this time of year as we are all itching for moments of rest and relaxation. Some people like to take advantage of this time off by simply sitting under an umbrella and watching the waves, some people like to play in the sand, and some people like to get lost in a good book. I must admit, I am one to do all of these but if I had to choose, it would be the latter.
After doing just that all weekend by the pool, I figured, “Hey! It would be great to make a list of books specifically for military spouses to read while we sit by the pool!” So here I am– creating a list of books for military spouses to read while we sit by the pool (or beach or lake or on your couch… You do you boo.).
“Marriage is hard enough for the everyday civilian. But imagine marriage when you’re separated by thousands of miles . . . when one of you daily faces the dangers of combat . . . while the other shoulders all the burden of home-front duties. Add to that unpredictable schedules, frequent moves, and the challenge of reintegration, and it’s no wonder military marriages are under stress…”

“Sarah’s motivation was to fill a void in her family life: that empty chair at the dining room table while her Navy pilot husband, Dustin, was deployed overseas for a year. (Although there are so many great choices, this is probably the one that I’ll get for myself first!)
Fortunately, none of these books are TOO lengthy. Let us know if you have any favorites that I failed to include. Happy reading!
